Chapter 16
The Chief’s Guidance
The following morning, I was the first to awake out of the three of us, and unlike other early mornings in Fallowmere, I felt completely safe and at ease in Fergal’s tree house. I lay in the warm sleeping bag, and I could hear Hosemee whispering nearby. I simply lay thinking without opening my eyes.
I’d been in this new world for five days now and the time had flown by. I wondered if any of our relatives had noticed our absence in the human world and were now desperately searching for us. Emma, surely would’ve tried to get a hold of me and left messages.
If anyone did raise the alarm, they’d find our house in a state and the police would be involved. How would we explain our absence to them? We couldn’t tell them the truth because they’d think the whole Watson family had lost their marbles.
Ruby could be heard opening and shutting the kitchen cupboards, and not before long, the tempting smell of toast being made and eggs being fried, forced me to get up.
I sat up and Ruby, Fergal, and Hosemee immediately looked my way. ‘Good morning, everyone,’ I said as they each returned the greeting while smiling at me. Ruby was cooking at the stove, and Hosemee and Fergal were sitting on the sofa chattering away.
Lena and Kal also stirred in their sleep and were up and out of their sleeping bags in no time. We washed up and came to the table to eat breakfast.
‘After you eat, we’ll talk about how to get you to Cranwell Castle,’ Hosemee said from the sofa. ‘Kal, you’ll be happy to know, you can note everything down in your diary.’ Hosemee chuckled.
‘Thank you,’ Kal replied while getting up through the middle of his breakfast to get out his diary from his rucksack. ‘What?’ he asked of Lena when he found her looking at him in disbelief.
‘Nothing at all, Kal,’ she sighed.
Once we’d eaten our fill, Ruby ordered the three of us to the sofa after we tried to help her clear up. ‘You have a lot on your plates already, and you need as much rest as possible,’ she said.
We made ourselves comfortable on the sofa. ‘Now that you’re all fed and watered, Fergal and I need to find a way to get you three to the Caves of Arya safely,’ Hosemee said, ‘and without detection. I’ll also tell you more about the location of the Sorin. Fergal has given me a copy of the map you’re using.’ Hosemee placed it on the table before him. ‘You are here,’ he said pointing at the centre of the Forest of Eedon on the map.
‘The Caves of Arya are further north. It will take you at least five days to reach them, and you’ll not find any more creatures that’ll help you to get rid of Bulzaar in this forest,’ Hosemee continued. ‘Bulzaar has a stronghold on them, and they can be extremely brutal when they want to be and will hand you over to the Fire Blades without thought.
